JEE Main Exam
Engineering entrance exams at the common-national level are known as Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE). Every student who hopes to be accepted into India’s most prestigious and sought-after engineering schools. JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) are the other two divisions of the test.
- Since 2019, the entrance exam has been administered by India’s National Testing Agency (NTA).
- For the participating 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 33 other Central Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) regulates and manages the admission process as well as seat allocation based on the student’s JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) scores.
- It is not possible for students to retake the JEE-Advanced exam after they join in an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), although this is not true for NIT, IISc, IISERs, RGIPT, IIPE, and IIST.
The JEE (Advanced) score is used as the foundation for admission by many institutions, however the JoSAA also offers post-exam counselling. These organisations include the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs), and the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy.
JEE (Main) 2024
One of the most popular exams for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs is the computer-based engineering entrance test known as JEE (Main). However, a lot of renowned private colleges use JEE (Main) scores as the basis for admission to bachelor’s degrees in engineering (B.E.) and technology (B.Tech).
- Paper 1: Undergraduate engineering programmes (B.E./B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs), as well as establishments/universities supported/recognized by participating State Governments, are covered by this programme. The National Testing Agency’s JEE (Advanced), which is required for admission to India’s most esteemed engineering schools, the IITs, also serves as a prerequisite for JEE (Main).
- Paper 2: For admission to undergraduate programmes in the nation’s Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) and Bachelor of Planning (BPlan) programmes, respectively, Paper 2A and Paper 2B are administered.
JEE (Main) 2024 Eligibility
To participate in JEE (Main) 2024, candidates must meet the qualifying conditions imposed by India’s National Testing Agency (NTA). Before submitting the application, candidates should confirm that they meet the requirements since those who don’t meet the prerequisites for the exam will be rejected and ineligible for admission.
The NTA has divided the JEE (Main) 2024 eligibility requirements into two categories.

- Eligibility requirements for admission to colleges like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
JEE (Main) Application
In January and April of 2024, there will be two sessions for the JEE (Main) exam. By paying the necessary costs, the candidate may apply for either one session or both sessions at once. The applicants benefit from this in two ways. If the first session was subpar or if they missed the first session due to unforeseen circumstances, they can improve their scores in the second session. The applicant won’t have to wait a full year to take the most sought-after engineering admissions test as a result.
JEE (Main) Admit Card
The NTA publishes the JEE (Main) admission card on their official website. The admit card is an important piece of paper for candidates for engineering programmes. To take the exam, they need to bring a picture ID and their JEE (Main) admit card to the testing location.
JEE (Main) Opportunity for NRI/PIO/GCC Resident Students
The Ministry of Human Resources and Development’s DASA/CIWG Scheme enables aspirant NRI engineering students to enrol at India’s top engineering schools. Among NRIs in the Middle East and other parts of the world, this programme is frequently referred to as the “NRI Quota.”
Under the DASA Scheme, NRI students currently have three options: Engineering Admission in India.
- Priority 1 – Admission to IITs in India
- Priority 2 – Admission to CFTIs in India (NITs, IIITs & Other Institutions)
- Priority 3 – Admission to State Engineering Colleges
JEE (Main) Exam Centres Outside India
Engineering aspirants outside of India now have relief thanks to NTA, the JEE (Main) 2024 organiser. Now, the computer-based online test will be administered in a number of countries, including those in the GCC. NTA has assigned exam centres in 25 cities outside of India in order to accommodate the increasing number of overseas engineering applicants. NRIs and other foreign nationals are now able to apply for admission to India’s top technical institutions.
When completing the application, candidates can now choose their preferred exam location. They should be made aware that they won’t be able to switch centres after receiving their JEE (Main) 2024 admit card.
JEE (Main) Exam Pattern
We all know that the JEE (Main) consists of two papers: Paper 1 for bachelor’s degrees in engineering or technology, and Paper 2 for bachelor’s degrees in architecture or planning. Both exams have different test formats. The JEE (Main) 2024 will be totally online, with the exception of the drawing test for the B.Arch., which will be conducted offline.
JEE (Main) Preparation Tips

To be eligible for the JEE (Advanced), the second component of the NTA-conducted engineering admission test formerly known as IIT-JEE, candidates will need all the help they can get.

JEE Main Result
- The results will be calculated as a percentile (NTA Scores). The percentage will be calculated based on the candidate’s overall marks in the Paper across all subjects.
- After the results of Session 1 and Session 2 are declared, the rankings will be announced. The rank will be determined after comparing the attempts made by the candidates in both sessions.
- NTA will declare results on its official website only. The national authority never declares results offline.
- Rank is a composite of the All India Rank and All India Category Rank. No applicants will get a rank card from the authorities. It will be available for download only on the website for candidates.
- The candidate’s score and rank can be used in JoSSA’s counselling sessions to determine his or her eligibility for JEE (Advanced)

JEE (Main) Cut-Off
Along with publishing the results, the board will also disclose the JEE Main 2024 cut-off scores for each category on the NTA website.
- The difficulty of the exam’s questions and the applicants’ NTA scores will determine the cut-off scores for the various categories.
- The authorities will disclose the official NTA cut-off score for appearing in the JEE Advanced 2024 along with the results.
- The cut-off will be released online only.
- The cut-off determines the minimum marks required to appear for the JEE (Advanced).
- Candidates who score more than the announced cut-off will be regarded as qualified for JEE (Main) and will be eligible for JEE Advanced (Advanced).
- Only the candidates who meet the cut-off will be eligible for admission to the NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).
JEE (Main) Syllabus
The JEE (Main) 2024 syllabus is broken up into papers. The B.E./B.Tech. program’s first paper is devoted to physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Paper 2 is further split into Paper 2A for B.Arch, which emphasises math, general aptitude, and drawing, and Paper 2B for B.Plan, which emphasises math, general aptitude, and planning.
