JEE Main Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the JEE(Main) 2023, a candidate must meet all eligibility standards established by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the conducting authority. Failure to do so could result in their application and admission being rejected. Before starting the JEE (Main) 2023 application form, aspirants are recommended to carefully read the eligibility requirements.

The key eligibility criterion is as follows:

Age Limit

For the JEE (Main) exam, there is no maximum age limit. Candidates may take the JEE (Main) 2024 if they completed class 12 or its equivalent in 2021, 2022, or 2023. Depending on the institution they are applying to, applicants may need to meet specific age requirements.

Minimum Percentage Required

To take part in B.E./B.Tech courses in the JEE (Main) 2024, candidates are NO LONGER needed to acquire a specific percentage. However, in order to be admitted, candidates must achieve the minimal percentage requirements set by the institutes of their choice.

Number of Attempts

Aspirants may take JEE (Main) 2024 twice annually (Session 1 in January and Session 2 in April) in accordance with the most recent NTA changes. They can perform better by attending one or both sessions. The only restriction is that candidates are only allowed to retake the exam three times in a succession, starting with the year they passed their class 12 or equivalent exam.

List of Qualifying Examinations

  • The final test for the 10+2 system should have been conducted by any reputable Central or State Board, such as CBSE, ICSE, and so on.
  • A recognised Board/University administered an intermediate or two-year Pre-University exam.
  • The candidate completed the two-year course’s final exam at the National Defence Academy’s Joint Services Wing. Candidate passed the National Institute of Open Schooling’s Senior Secondary School Examination with a minimum of five courses.
  • The candidate has successfully completed his or her 10+2 or equivalent examination from a public school, board, or university that has been approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in India or any other nation.
  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
  • The candidate has completed a three-year diploma programme recognised by AICTE or a State Board of technical education.
  • The candidate passed the General Certificate of Education (GCE) exam at the Advanced (A) level in London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka.
  • The applicant obtained an International Baccalaureate diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office in Geneva or completed the Cambridge University High School Certificate Examination.
  • A certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) certifying that the examination they passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination must be shown by candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside of India or from a Board other than those listed above.
  • The candidate must have previously passed at least one public exam (Board or Pre-University) if the Class 12 Exam is not a public test.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination

  • No matter their age, candidates who passed the class 12/equivalent exam in 2021, 2022, 2023, or who will sit for it in 2024 are eligible to take the JEE (Main) – 2024.
  • The JEE (Main) 2024 is not open to applicants who passed the Class 12 or comparable exams in 2020 or earlier, nor is it open to candidates who will take the 10+2 test in 2025 or later.

Mandatory Subjects

In addition to meeting the requirements listed above, candidates must also meet the following criteria. Students must have studied and passed specific courses in 10+2 or an equivalent exam to be eligible to take JEE (Main) in 2024.

JEE Main NRI Students Eligibility

In addition to the aforementioned qualifications, the DASA Scheme was developed by the Indian Ministry of Education to allow Indians residing abroad to sit for engineering entrance exams. Therefore, an engineering applicant is eligible to pursue technical education in India if they satisfy the aforementioned requirements in addition to the DASA Scheme.

DASA Scheme

Under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme, also known as the “NRI Quota,” as announced by the Indian Ministry of Education, foreign nationals (FNs) studying in any country (including India), as well as children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), are permitted to pursue technical education in India at the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), International Institute

CIWG Scheme

The Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf programme is part of the well-known DASA Scheme. The NRI Quota includes the policy. The main distinction is that NRI students in Middle Eastern countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain can take advantage of additional privileges offered by this portion of the programme.

This programme is only offered to NRI students from Middle Eastern nations applying to engineering colleges in India.
NRI students can enrol in premier engineering schools in India, including NITs, IIITs, and other institutes supported by the national government, through the CIWG Scheme.
The several streams, such as Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Computer Engineering (CE), Mechanical Engineering (MEC), Information Technology, Software Engineering, and so forth, are available to students in the CIWG category.
