XAT Syllabus

The decision-making, verbal and logical ability, quantitative aptitude and data interpretation, and general knowledge are covered in the XLRI Jamshedpur syllabus for the XAT exam. Every serious applicant should start by reviewing the XAT Syllabus so that they may plan their preparation and leave adequate time for sample exams at the conclusion.

The XAT 2024 exam will be administered by computer. It’s anticipated that the XAT Exam Notification will be made public in the first week of August 2023. The Essay Writing section was reinstated in XAT 2022 after being eliminated in XAT 2019. All questions, with the exception of the essay writing question, are multiple-choice questions.

The XAT percentile score is determined by three sections:

  • Verbal & Logical Ability
  • Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation
  • Decision Making

XAT Syllabus 2024: Overview

The XAT Syllabus is equally comprehensive as the CAT Syllabus, and like the CAT, it lacks an official syllabus, giving the organising body some latitude in determining the exam’s format. The XAT Exam Pattern must be thoroughly examined before the XAT Syllabus. There are 5 sections in the XAT Exam:

  • Verbal and Logical Ability
  • Decision Making
  • Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation
  • General Knowledge
  • Essay Writing

The following is the anticipated marking breakdown for the XAT Exam 2021:

+1/-0.25
After 8 failed attempts, 0.10 marks are deducted for each question that was not answered.
The candidates must be highly selective in the questions they choose to leave because they are not allowed to leave more than 8 questions unattempted.

As was already stated, the XLRI Jamshedpur, which hosts the XAT, does not expressly provide the XAT Syllabus. The types of questions given and the subjects that are often assessed in the XAT Exam can, however, be determined by referring to prior XAT papers. We must examine the syllabus in terms of its sections in order to prepare in accordance with the XAT Syllabus.

XAT Syllabus 2024: Exam Pattern

The exam format and questions were slightly altered for XAT 2023, and XAT 2024 is anticipated to continue this pattern. There is a 5-minute break between portions 2 and 3 of the XAT exam for mock keyboard testing. The remaining exam has 5 sections divided into 2 halves. There is no specific time limit for the portions. A basic description of the XAT exam pattern is provided here.

XAT Syllabus 2024: Verbal & Logical Ability

The verbal ability, reading comprehension (VARC), and logical reasoning sections are combined in this section. For planning purposes, it is divided into three separate sections:

Verbal Ability

The VA segment on the CAT Exam is comparable to this portion of the Verbal & Logical Ability segment. As a result, the following subjects are included in the XAT Syllabus and are typically assessed in the XAT Exam:

  • Vocabulary Based Questions
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Synonyms/ Antonyms
  • Contextual Meaning of Words
  • Jumbled paragraphs
  • Correction of Errors in Sentences
  • Correct Usage of Words
  • Completion of Sentences
  • Completion of Paragraph
  • Cloze Test
  • Poem

Reading Comprehension

Compared to the VARC component of the CAT Exam, Reading Comprehension in the XAT makes up a lesser (but still considerable) portion of the exam. The XAT Exam covers every topic, just like the CAT exam. The XAT Exam’s passages have a somewhat strict word count restriction. This does not imply that the passages are easier to read, though.

According to the XAT Syllabus, the following types of questions are asked in the RC section:

  • Information-Based Question
  • Author’s View type of question
  • Inference based Question
  • Main Idea and Purpose of the Passage
  • True/False Statements based on the Passage
  • Explanation of Words/Phrases in the Passage

Logical Reasoning

The CAT Syllabus largely covers the XAT Syllabus’s Logical Reasoning portion. On average, the XAT Exam has few questions in this area. Additionally, it contains a few critical reasoning questions that are typically not included in the CAT exam. The XAT Syllabus lists the following topics as those typically tested in the logical reasoning section:

  • Clocks & Calendars
  • Analogy
  • Fact, Inference and Judgment
  • Binary Logic
  • Seating Arrangement
  • Blood Relations
  • Logical Sequences
  • Assumption, Premise and Conclusion

XAT Syllabus 2024: Decision Making

In contrast to all other MBA Entrance Exams, the XAT Exam is the only one that has a Decision Making part. The candidate’s ability to think clearly and read social cues is examined, as well as their capacity for problem-solving and case-solving. This section typically has more than 20 questions and had 22 in the XAT 2023.

The XAT Syllabus lists the following topics as those that are typically tested in this section:

  • Conditioning and Grouping Tests
  • Data Arrangement Test
  • Complex Arrangement
  • Decision Making in a situation
  • Case lets

The applicants are recommended to complete as many XAT Exam Papers from the Past as they can in order to prepare for the Decision Making Section of the XAT Syllabus. This will guarantee that the applicants are familiar with both the section’s topics and the XAT Exam’s language.

XAT Syllabus 2024: Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation

This portion, like the verbal ability section, combines the quantitative aptitude and data interpretation parts of the CAT. The XAT Exam 2023 featured 28 questions, while the most recent exam to include 33 questions was the XAT Exam 2015.

Quantitative Ability

The Quantitative Ability part of the XAT syllabus is comparable to the CAT syllabus. The topics often tested are as follows, according the past XAT Papers, which set the XAT Syllabus:

  • LCM and HCF
  • Percentages
  • Profit and Loss
  • Interest (Simple and Compound)
  • Speed, Time and Distance; Time and Work; Averages; Ratio and Proportion and others
  • Number System
  • Algebra
  • Geometry including Co-ordinate Geometry
  • Mensuration
  • Pure Math
  • Venn diagrams
  • Linear Equations
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Complex Numbers
  • Logarithm
  • Progressions
  • Binomial Theorem
  • Surds and Indices
  • Inequalities
  • Permutation and Combination
  • Probability Functions
  • Set Theory
  • Mixtures and Alligations
  • Trigonometry

Data Interpretation

The XAT Syllabus for the Data Interpretation section consists of:

  • Data Tables
  • Data Charts
  • Bar Diagrams
  • Pie Charts
  • Graphs
  • Data Analysis and Comparison

XAT Syllabus 2024: General Knowledge Section

Another area that the CAT does not test is this one. The XAT percentiles are determined using the first 3 parts, despite the fact that the section is present.

Current events and traditional GK (trivia) are both covered in great detail in this area of the XAT Syllabus. In this area, questions are frequently raised on the following subjects:

  • Economics and Finance
  • National and International Current Affairs
  • Constitution of India and Laws
  • Capitals and Currencies
  • Famous Personalities
  • Books and Authors
